Summer Do's

With temperatures reaching 150 degrees on a daily basis lately, looking good can be a little tricky. I think that we can all agree that sweat, unless in a hot music video or a steamy movie scene, is NOT sexy. Here are a few ways to get all that hair off your neck and not look like you're just going grocery shopping or working out in the yard. Or, if you ARE doing those things- to look hot while you're doing them!

1. Textured Coiffe
Fighting humidity is never fun. Why not just embrace it and make it a feature? After shampooing and conditioning with the Love smoothing line by Davines, run a nickle size amount of Momo moisturizing Anti-frizz protection fluid through tresses, braid random air dried sections in random sizes toward the bottom of your head and pin up in a messy undone updo.

2. High Bun

For those of you that don't quite have the texure to pull off the messy updo, try smoothing dry hair with some Davines Defining Wonder Wax into a high ponytail. Twist the pony into one long twist and wrap in the opposite direction of your twist making it look like the hair is coming out of the center of the bun. Pin in all four corners of the bun with an open bobby pin letting it close before pushing it into the bun. Add an extra four pins in the four corners that have no pins and spray lightly with some Defining Invisible hairspray to smooth away flyaways.

3. Classic Pony Tail

Gather your hair into a ponytail at the point of your head where your hair starts to fall back instead of to the sides with a bit of Davines Defining Wonder Wax. Take a small piece of hair from the bottom of the pony and wrap around your elastic. Wrap the end of the piece into the base of your gather and pin. Continue securing in all four corners opposite the initial pin. Spray lightly with Defining Invisible Hairspray.

4. Side Swept Braid

Braids are a mega popular hit trend lately in any shape or form. This rendition is a quick one that can be worn down as a casual quick answer to a bad hairday or with some bobby pins for a lightning speed updo on the way out for a night on the town. A fish tail braid is a way to spice this look up a bit.

5. The Headband

While not a style per say, a headband can transform any style into a SUPER style. Wear a thin elastic toward the face or a scarf wide from the hairline to the top of the head. Headbands can be made from all sorts of different things, ribbons, shoestrings and scarves to name a few. If you can tie it- odds are you can band it so have fun trying new, out of the box ideas.

Hope these give you a little hope where being Cool in both senses of the word are concerned!

I've never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful. ~Author Unknown

Our society is so quick to prescribe medications for everything from sniffles to a bad day. Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer that medicine has it's place but sometimes I think we need a reminder that the very best antidepressant doesn't cost anything and is so incredibly convenient to get!  I saw this article and I wanted to share it with you guys...

1. Smiling Makes Us Attractive

We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good. Frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away -- but a smile draws them in (avoid these smile aging habits to keep your smile looking great).

2. Smiling Changes Our Mood

Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile. There's a good chance you mood will change for the better. Smiling can trick the body into helping you change your mood.

3. Smiling Is Contagious

When someone is smiling they lighten up the room, change the moods of others, and make things happier. A smiling person brings happiness with them. Smile lots and you will draw people to you.

4. Smiling Relieves Stress

Stress can really show up in our faces. Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down, and overwhelmed. When you are stressed, take time to put on a smile. The stress should be reduced and you'll be better able to take action.

5. Smiling Boosts Your Immune System

Smiling helps the immune system to work better. When you smile, immune function improves possibly because you are more relaxed. Prevent the flu and colds by smiling.

6. Smiling Lowers Your Blood Pressure

When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. Give it a try if you have a blood pressure monitor at home. Sit for a few minutes, take a reading. Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. Do you notice a difference?

7. Smiling Releases Endorphins, Natural Pain Killers and Serotonin

Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin. Together these three make us feel good. Smiling is a natural drug.

8. Smiling Lifts the Face and Makes You Look Younger

The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger. Don't go for a face lift, just try smiling your way through the day -- you'll look younger and feel better.

Davines

So my first tidbit of information is going to be a long one. Davines (Dah-ven-ess) is the line I've chosen to carry in the salon and my new love. Coming from Aveda I've become used to a certain level of naturalness that tends to be difficult to find in hair care and color lines. I believe this lives up to my standards. I'm super excited to introduce you to them!

Davines originally began as a skin care line which leads them to the concept that a healthy scalp equals healthy hair. This being said, every product is designed not only with your hair in mind but the place it came from, assuring that everything that ultimately shows is healthy as well.

In getting to know Davines as well as I know Aveda I've found that a certain word is repeated constantly- Sustainability.
They strive to leave as little negative impact on the world around them as possible and actually do their part to balance what waste they do output by planting new trees to renew the oxygen resources used in manufacturing.

I would go into all of the amazing things that the products do, but I think I'll just leave you with a link to their website so that you can get to know some of what made me fall in love with this new product line.

Healthy hair and clean air,

Hello, new Blog... My name is Jeanie, nice to meet you...

So, Blogs. What's the dealio with blogs? I guess there's something to be said for information, be it useful or, well useLESS. Hopefully this will be more the former than the latter.

Today is Monday. As everyone knows, the universal hairdresser's day off. Since I'm in the process of opening my new little corner of the industry, paint colors and hair color lines filled my day today. It's pretty cool I guess, can't wait til the dust settles and I can work out my new groove.

My goal in maintaining this blog is to offer different information that I think you'd like to know be it skin care, hair care, or something off the wall that I think you might find interesting.

Can't wait to see what you think of it! Create a beautiful day!!
